Are
you good enough to get into heaven? |
This is a question I
posed to E… asking for their “Top Ten” objections to Christianity. E... had
nine rather than ten, but I still call it the "Top Ten".
In your opinion,
what is the biggest obstacle to believing in the God of Christianity? I'm
sure there are many, but what hits your top 10 list? The reason I ask is
because I've found that I learn more by listening to people's objections.
I've spoken to Buddhists, agnostics, atheists, and Sikh's, and every time I
do, I come away with questions that drive me to look for answers. We all
tend to by myopic when we don't listen to other people's views that do not
agree with ours. I know that's kind of a broad question; however, I'm
curious to know what your viewpoint is because you do believe in a "Higher"
power. Your answer would be different then say a person that doesn't
believe in any god whatsoever.
I don't know that I have a top ten
list, but the things that come to mind.....
-
There are many different types of
religions/faiths......they all represent something different. I understand
everything is open to interpretation, but then it becomes someone's
opinion, translation, or perception of what they are reading and learning.
How is the person or group more capable than another to decide what is
"truth or accurate or correct" and what isn't?
-
Most things can be proven with
facts and data. Again, some of the things you read in the Bible or hear
about have facts behind them and some don't. I am a see it, feel it, smell
it kind of person. I don't know that I can put my thumb on what God is. I
haven't seen it or felt it or touched it. This comment leads to my "higher
power" thought. I have two children. I was on birth control both times I
got pregnant. Two years later I had cancer and had to have a hysterectomy,
which is very uncommon at 23. I have always wanted children. So, someone
or something bigger than me knew what was in my "plan" and I had kids
before the cancer happened. At the time, I was sad because I was not
prepared for kids and I had things I wanted to do. After the surgery, I
realized that I had been blessed and should be thankful for the two best
gifts I have ever received. This could be a fluke or maybe I missed a
pill. No solid proof. I am washy about this one.

Lots of really good people and
children are in circumstances that are beyond their control. Sometimes the
end result is death. Why would someone or something allow children to be
in those situations? I hear a lot about Angels and how they affect people.
Where are the Angels for these people? Why not put some guiding force in
their lives? I understand that everyone has the will to choose and that
can not be controlled. I know there are two sides to this in every
situation, but I don't get why children are born with crippling birth
defects are not born at all.......
-
Purgatory is a big thing in the
Catholic Church. I do not believe in Purgatory. Does God really want to
hold people in Purgatory? Is that really what it's all about? I don't buy
into that. I understand there is more to it, but you get my point.
-
Confession....this has always
bothered me. Catholic people believe that you have to go to confession to
be forgiven. If I say ten Hail Mary's, then I will get into heaven. Sorry,
but that's a load. No man should be able to give me penance for my sins.
No one is entitled to tell me how to have a relationship with God. Nor is
anyone more special or valuable or "holy" because they have a collar. ( no
offense, not directed at you)
-
Again with the Priests being
Holy....if they are so Holy and privileged, why are they having sex with
little boys? Not that I would condone either, but why is it boys and not
girls? Catholic people are so anti-homosexuality. STAY AWAY FROM LITTLE
BOYS THEN FREAKS..........
-
Why are Catholics so against
homosexuality? Does anyone know if it's a choice or someone is inclined
genetically that way? I haven't heard proof in either way. Is that to say
that if someone is homosexual and lead a good life, they will not go to
heaven? Why? I don't agree with homosexuality, but I do think that people
should be judged as people, not there sexual preference. That's
ridiculous. We have straight men and women that contribute nothing to this
world and are looked at differently than people who are not straight and
contribute much.
-
Why are there "requirements" to go
to heaven? Who designed these and who has the right to judge if you are
living up to them?
-
War is a huge thing with me. We
tell men and boys to go off someplace and kill people that are violating
our rights or the rights of someone else. That is so against what any
Bible says. What will happen to these men and boys? They are killers any
way you look at it......If they don't defend our country they are not
patriotic. They are not doing there "service or duty" to live in this
country........seems a little ironic......
